Infiniti adds a new model the 2009 G series luxury performance stable: the G37x. This all-wheel drive model features sleek styling, scintillating performance and luxurious appointments as essential attributes.
Also new for 2009 is the implementation of a 7-speed automatic transmission featuring a performance oriented Drive Sport mode and Downshift Rev Matching.
My Infiniti G37x AWD Coupe tester had a base price of $38,700. The final sticker totaled $47,245 after adding the following optional features and equipment: the Premium Package, illuminated kick plates, rear deck spoiler, Navigation Package and destination charge.
The Infiniti G37 Coupe draws its motive power from a 3.7-liter, 24-valve V-6 with sequential multi-point fuel injection that cranks out 330 horsepower while also delivering 270 lb.-ft. of torque.
The G37 Coupe’s engine is integrated into the second-generation FM (Front Mid-ship) platform, which features a 4-wheel independent suspension with lightweight aluminum components that yield rapid acceleration response and sporty handling. This new model utilizes the advanced ATESSA E-TS also found in the Infiniti G37x sedan AWD model. The ATESSA E-TS system is capable of delivering up to 50 percent of available power to the front wheels automatically, as needed.
Visually, the G37 Coupe displays an elegant and seductive, yet subtle, exterior that is defined by its aerodynamic wave-form hood, signature G-style taillights and sharply angled A-pillars and powerful stance — along with diminutive outside mirrors. Other design cues include: a double-arch grille with sculpted grille blades; standard High Intensity Discharge headlights; integrated fog lights and L- shaped LED taillights.
On the inside the G37 Coupe showcases an expertly crafted, heritage-inspired environment and luxurious features such as leather-appointed seating as standard, and an audiophile-quality Infiniti Sound Studio on Wheels by Bose. Other 2009 enhancements include standard Scratch Shield paint, a redesigned dial-type seat heater switch and an automatic speed-sensing function for the power door locks.
All 2009 G37s are equipped with standard leather-appointed seating in a choice of Wheat (except Sport-equipped vehicles), Stone or Graphite tones. Along with the standard Washi-style aluminum trim, premium genuine wood (straight-grained African Rosewood) accents (center console, instrument panel and doors) are optionally available.
In addition to its sensual visual appeal, Infiniti’s G37x Coupe delivers an exhilarating performance package as well. The acceleration is brisk, with a smooth linear response as it progresses through the seven gears either automatically or manually shifted. The rev-matching feature of the transmission will be appealing to many drivers. The ride quality is comfortable without being either too compliant or too firm. The handling characteristics are precise, but for some enthusiasts the handling will seem a little too assisted, but I think the G37x is sporty and fun to drive.
The interior appointments are on a luxurious scale with pleasing fit, finish and textures to enjoy along with all the onboard technological enhancements. The layout is intuitive from a driver’s perspective with legible instruments and gauges.
Safety and security aren’t lacking either in the G37x, and the state-of-the-art content provides an increased sense of security when motoring in a spirited manner.
